CONTRIBUTION TO FAMILY PLANNING
The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (GI) is uniquely positioned to contribute to the global advancement and understanding of FP, RH and population issues.
GI will continue to conduct cutting-edge research with key institutions in countries where universal access to FP and RH services is still a distant goal. Equally, we will leverage our academic expertise, in-country partnerships and global convening power to maximize the impact of new evidence and knowledge to ensure critical research informs change in a sustainable way.
Ultimately, GI aims to be the knowledge leader on research and evidence-informed practice and policy change on our core issues at the global and country levels.
GI consists of the following projects:
Advance Family Planning (AFP) – www.advancefamilyplanning.org
AFP aims to increase the financial investment and political commitments needed to ensure access to quality family planning through evidence based advocacy.
PMA – www.pmadata.org
PMA surveys collect actionable high quality data — collected frequently, turned around quickly, and locally owned – on a variety of family planning topics that inform policies at national and sub-national levels.
The Challenge Initiative (TCI) – www.tciurbanhealth.org
TCI takes a “business unusual’ approach to scaling up urban reproductive health solutions with proven results and trusted partners.
Demographic Dividend (DD) – www.demographicdividend.org
Gates Institute has also organized international gatherings on the DD and worked with the Population Reference Bureau, the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa to produce a demographic dividend report and briefs to better assist policy makers in understanding issues around the DD.
120 Under 40 – www.120under40.org
120 Under 40: The New Generation of Family Planning Leaders recognizes and highlights the achievements of the next generation of family planning leaders worldwide.120 Under 40 shines a light on the “positive disruptions” made by young leaders in family planning, enabling others to model their behavior and build on their success. 120 Under 40 is organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with sponsorship from Bayer.
