Visa Process Update

The ICFP Secretariat understands some members of our community are experiencing issues garnering a visa for this year’s conference, especially for those who reside in countries where there is no Thai Embassy present.

The ICFP Secretariat advises all people to register for the conference before making an appointment to garner your visa.

The Secretariat also advises registrants to confirm their appointment date and time with their local embassy and make sure they understand all elements of the visa application they are responsible for providing during said appointment. To avoid scheduling issues, please make sure to contact the consulate ahead of time to confirm your appointment before going there in person.

Please see this important update on the visa process for more information and to share your feedback with us.

Thai November Holiday Update

The Thai government has declared a holiday for those who work in Bangkok from 16-18 November 2022. As a result, many people are likely to travel to Pattaya City to vacation at this time.

For this reason, we strongly encourage those planning on attending ICFP 2022 in person to book accommodations soon before hotels in Pattaya City fill up.

Please see our hotels page for a full list of official conference hotels and special deals for ICFP attendees.

In-person Attendance Requirement

What are the official conference COVID-19 safety protocols?

We are planning in coordination with representatives of the JHU Center for Health Security, on implementing a number of measures to ensure as best as possible the safety of all delegates, depending upon the COVID-19 situation in Thailand in the fall, possibly including but not limited to:

  • Increased number of, and access to, hand-washing/hand-sanitizing stations
  • Promoting personal protective practices, such as safe physical distancing, frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and use of a mask
Offering virtual, live-streamed sessions and activities
  • COVID-19 detection, surveillance, and quarantine facilities
  • Full vaccination requirement

All registered attendees will be notified once the official list of protocols is available. Please note that all attendees will be expected to follow and comply with any and all national and/or local requirements, as well as any policies set by the conference.

Do you recommend getting travel insurance?

The Thai government is currently requiring travelers to have proof of at least $10,000 USD in medical coverage for medical treatment in Thailand. This is subject to change, and if this requirement is removed we will inform registrants immediately. Additionally, we recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover flights, accomodations, etc. Please note that in the case of unforeseen venue capacity restrictions, travel insurance is not likely to cover this circumstance. Please review the terms and conditions of the policy to ensure that it provides the level of protection that you are looking for.
