In her role as Program Specialist, Darby provides a range of communications functions across multiple projects at the Gates Institute. Her responsibilities include support and development of the 2021 International Conference on the Family Planning communication strategy. A recent graduate of Loyola University Maryland, she earned her BA in writing and communications with a specialization in PR/advertising. During her time as an undergraduate she completed multiple internships in health communication with University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and Gates Institute’s own Advance Family Planning. Darby has experience in social and traditional media marketing, event planning, and communications research. She is also well-versed in various genres of writing including news items, creative non-fiction, essays, and science writing. Darby served as a copyeditor at Loyola’s student-run news publication which affords her extensive knowledge of grammar and AP style. She has always felt passionately about healthcare accessibility and gender equality, and hopes to further her education with an MPH at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
