The organizers of the 2022 International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) are seeking youth leaders aged 18 to 29 years old to be youth speakers and/or moderators on youth-focused and other sessions at the conference. Young people who are selected will receive full sponsorship of registration, travel and accommodation costs, and will play an essential role in providing a youth perspective to the program.
In the spirit of using new technology to spread the word about family planning, the 2022 ICFP will be including video submissions as a part of the application for youth leaders. This format was used for the past three conferences, including 2018, and was very successful. All youth applicants must complete their own video submission, but may seek assistance from local organizations or other resources. At least one professional reference should be provided in support of the candidates’ qualifications.
The applicant must have experience in the field of family planning and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights (SHRH) or adolescent health in order to be able to serve as a speaker and/or moderator at conference sessions. It is encouraged that the applications talk about family planning in relation to the conference theme – Universal Health Coverage – or make a creative video related to the theme. This year’s theme, “Family Planning & Universal Health Coverage: Innovate. Collaborate. Accelerate.” underscores our belief that family planning should be a core component of universal health coverage. Not only is access to family planning and reproductive health services a pillar of good personal health, it is also a critical component of a country’s economic health.
The video is to highlight your experience with family planning, your creativity and your ability to convey an important message to an audience. You may use photos, music or other graphics, but you must also speak during the video.
The submission must be your original work. You, the applicant, must hold all rights to the submission including the copyright. You may get assistance from organizations or individuals (e.g., for equipment), but the actual video MUST depict your unique qualifications.
The submission must be at least thirty (30) seconds in length and may not exceed five (5) minutes in length. Please ensure clarity of image and sound in the video submission (for transfer onto multimedia screen and visibility from a distance).
The submission must be in either French or English. Submissions in other languages should include English/French subtitles. You will have to make the video publicly available and downloadable so that when you submit the URL, we can access your video.
In the case that you do not have access to equipment or cannot for other reasons create a video, please contact email@example.com. Attempts will be made to connect you with local organizations or other sources of support. You may also be able to use existing material such as recorded speeches as support; however, new material that specifically relates to the conference application is required and should be the focus of the video.
Data Content Restrictions
- The video must not contain material that violates the rights of others, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, tort or intellectual property rights (including copyright, trademark or patent right).
- The video must not contain copyrighted music, images, footage, artwork or videos not owned by you as an applicant.
- The video must not contain inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful or discriminatory materials that violate international human rights.
The name and contact information of at least one (1) reference (e.g. a mentor, teacher or supervisor from an organization that you have volunteered for or worked with in the past) should be provided in support of your qualification as speaker at the conference.

Rules and Guidelines
In order to enter the Youth Leader Travel Award contest, you must be between the ages of 18 and 29 on or before March 17, 2021. You can only enter the contest once. You will be required to submit a copy of your passport for age verification.
A selection jury consisting of members of the ICFP International Youth Steering Committee will choose the winning entries. The top candidates will be chosen to speak, moderate or have other roles in voicing the youth perspectives on family planning during the conference in Pattaya City, Thailand.
Outstanding video submissions, whether or not from winning candidates, will be compiled and displayed at the conference and/or the conference website.
The selection of youth speakers/moderators is separate from the selection of scientific abstract presenters. That is, while ICFP welcomes applications from young researchers who have submitted individual research or program abstracts or preformed panels, this is not a requirement for becoming a youth speaker at the conference.
Submissions will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Clarity of family planning message
- Inclusion of conference theme in message
- Ability to speak eloquently and convey a message to an audience
- Background and reference
- Interest and ability to learn and contribute to the conference
