Adding It Up is an ongoing Guttmacher Institute project that estimates the need for, impact of and costs associated with providing essential sexual and reproductive health services. Its component studies illustrate the investment needed to ensure these services are available to all women of reproductive age (15­–49) and their newborns—as well as to adolescents, specifically—in low- and middle-income countries.

For decades, the Guttmacher Institute has documented the reality of unsafe abortion in the developing world. Most recently, the Unintended Pregnancy and Abortion Worldwide study has produced model-based estimates of the incidence of unintended pregnancy and abortion over the period 1990–2019 for 150 countries and territories around the world.
