CONTRIBUTION TO FAMILY PLANNING
Family planning is a right. It saves lives and gives women the time, health and energy to care for their families, stay in school, get a job or start a business. Yet millions of women still lack access to modern contraception and reproductive health care. Our goal is to ensure that all individuals’ sexual and reproductive health and rights are respected, protected and fulfilled.
To achieve this vision, Jhpiego follows a multipronged approach: address the knowledge, attitudes, behavior and social norms surrounding family planning and reproductive health; optimize organization and delivery of family planning and reproductive health services; and create an environment that supports provision and continued use of these services.
Partners in Planning
As partners in parenting and business, Reena and Kunna are glad to be able to plan how many children to have and when. When Reena was pregnant with their second son, a village community health worker visited their home and explained the pros and cons of contraceptive methods to help the couple make an informed decision that best suited their family. They chose POPS, progesterone only pills.
A Nurse Finds Her Niche
When Beth Wamai joined Busia Health Centre IV in Uganda, she never expected to find her niche in its family planning clinic. All she knew was that she was ready for a challenge in her patient care practice. In 13 years as a nurse, she’d provided traditional, hands-on patient care, which meant a lot of recordkeeping and doling out of medicines. Supported by The Challenge Initiative, Beth received the training and confidence to become a highly skilled family planning champion who is meeting the contraceptive needs of her clients.
